Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Reef Ahoy's 3D-printed reef aquarium accessories.

Is PETG safe for reef tanks and marine aquariums?

Yes — PETG (Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol) is one of the safest 3D-printing materials for reef aquariums. It is chemically inert, does not leach plasticisers or BPA, and is stable in saltwater environments. We specifically chose PETG because it does not affect water chemistry, pH, or alkalinity. All Reef Ahoy accessories are printed from reef-safe PETG filament.

What is the difference between PETG and PLA for aquarium use?

PLA (Polylactic Acid) is biodegradable and breaks down over time, especially in warm or humid environments — making it unsuitable for long-term aquarium use. PETG is food-safe, highly water-resistant, and does not degrade in saltwater. For reef aquariums, PETG is the correct choice. We do not use PLA in any of our products.

How long does it take to print and ship my order?

All Reef Ahoy products are printed to order. Production typically takes 1–5 business days depending on order complexity and queue size. Once shipped, delivery times within Australia are generally 2–5 business days for metro areas and 5–10 business days for regional areas. You will receive tracking information once your order ships.

Do you ship outside Australia?

Online checkout currently ships within Australia only. We are based in Brisbane, QLD and all products are printed and dispatched from Australia. If you need an international quote, please contact us and we can review the order and shipping options.

What colours are available?

We offer a wide range of colours for most products. Available colours vary by product and are shown on each product page. Because we print to order, we can often accommodate specific colour requests — just reach out via our contact page and we'll do our best to help.

Can I request a custom design?

Absolutely! Custom designs are one of our favourite things to work on. If you have an idea for a reef accessory that doesn't exist yet — whether it's a specific frag holder size, a feeding tool shaped for your tank, or something entirely new — get in touch via our contact page. We design and prototype in-house, so turnaround on custom work is usually fast.

How do I clean my Reef Ahoy accessories?

Rinse with fresh RODI (Reverse Osmosis / Deionised) water after each use. For deeper cleaning, soak in a dilute vinegar solution (1 part white vinegar to 3 parts RODI water) for 10–15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Do not use bleach, harsh detergents, or abrasive scrubbers as these can scratch the surface. PETG is very easy to clean and resists algae build-up.

Are your magnets reef-safe?

Yes. Our magnetic accessories use neodymium magnets encapsulated in epoxy resin. The epoxy coating prevents any metal-to-saltwater contact, making them safe for reef aquariums. Our standard magnets work with aquarium glass up to 15mm thick. If your tank has thicker glass, contact us and we can supply stronger magnets.

What is your returns and refunds policy?

We offer a 30-day return window from the date of delivery. If your item is defective or damaged, return shipping is free and we will issue a full refund or replacement. For change-of-mind returns, items must be unused and in original condition. See our full returns policy for details.

Where are Reef Ahoy products made?
