Better control at reef tank feeding time

Frozen food is a useful part of a varied marine fish diet, but dropping a whole cube into the aquarium can release food faster than livestock can eat it. Food may be carried into the overflow, trapped in rockwork or missed by shy fish.

A reef tank frozen food feeder holds the food in one place while it thaws. Fish can feed around a consistent station as smaller portions become available, making feeding easier to observe and manage.

Choosing a frozen food feeder

Consider the food you normally use, the number and size of fish in the aquarium, and where the feeder can sit without obstructing flow or maintenance.

  • Choose a feeder size that suits your usual frozen portion and livestock.
  • Position it where fish can approach comfortably and you can remove it for cleaning.
  • Select a mounting option compatible with your aquarium.
  • Check the individual product details for current sizes and configurations before ordering.

Neptune's Bounty is available with magnetic and suction-cup mounting options. Standard Reef Ahoy magnetic mounts are intended for aquarium glass up to 15 mm thick; contact us before ordering for thicker panels.

Frozen foods and feeding technique

The feeder is intended for commonly used frozen aquarium foods that can thaw and pass through its openings. Food texture and particle size vary between brands, so observe the first few feeds and adjust the portion to suit your livestock.

A feeding station does not replace good nutrient management. Feed an amount your livestock can consume, monitor nitrate and phosphate trends, and remove uneaten food. Depending on your system, temporarily reducing strong flow may help prevent released food from being swept away before fish can reach it.

Manual feeder or automatic feeder?

These products are manual frozen food feeding tools. They hold a portion placed in the aquarium at feeding time and release it as it thaws. They are not refrigerated automatic feeders and do not store frozen food for unattended feeding over several days.

Cleaning and care

Remove the feeder after use and rinse away food residue. Use a soft brush when needed, avoid household cleaning chemicals, and inspect the mount before returning it to the aquarium. Regular cleaning helps prevent old food and biofilm from building up in the openings.

Nori and seaweed feeding

Forager's Fortune is a reusable nori feeder for marine fish that graze on dried seaweed. Keeping nori in a dedicated feeding position makes it easier to observe feeding and remove uneaten material before it breaks apart in the aquarium.

Add a suitably sized piece of aquarium-grade nori, position the feeder where fish can approach comfortably and remove remaining seaweed after the feeding period. Offer nori as part of a diet appropriate for the species you keep.
